Fostering Global CitizenshipSimon Fraser University Model United Nations (SFUMUN) is a club at Simon Fraser University's Burnaby Campus that forms a welcoming and active community of students with an interest in global affairs, international relations, world events, and the United Nations. Re-launched in Fall 2015 after a lengthy hiatus we are proud to announce that SFU Model United Nations is officially back and is here to stay. The overarching goal of SFUMUN is to foster positive global citizenship by providing a platform through which students can engage and participate in Model United Nations (MUN) conferences and related activities both locally and abroad.
Model United Nations is an extracurricular activity where participants delegate as a representative of a particular nation in an authentic simulation of the inner workings of United Nations committees. Through debate, discussion, and co-operation, Model United Nations provides an unique opportunity for its young participants to learn about international relations, civics, effective communication, globalization, and diplomacy. Because participants act in the role of diplomats to the United Nations, they must adhere to and defend the policies of the country they represent - effectively adding another layer of complexity when it comes to negotiating and creating resolutions to address a wide array of global issues, ultimately illustrating the difficulties faced by the real United Nations in achieving a better world. All are welcome at SFU Model United Nations, so we hope to see you soon! Model United Nations is . . .
